Canada turned 150 this year, but there was another birthday that is equally significant for many Canadians.

100 YEARS OF THE NHL

It’s almost hard to believe, isn’t it? The NHL formed in 1917, a full century ago, changing the game, and Canada, as we know it.

The Hockey Hall of Fame is taking this opportunity to present a limited time Centennial Exhibit. Literally a hundred years in the making, these displays will take you through the twists and turns of Canada’s favourite past-time. See the history of changes in policy like the introduction of the masks for goaltenders (including the first ever mask worn by Jacques Plante!), as well as advancements in the technology of equipment like skates and pads over the years.

At the heart of the display will be the 100 greatest NHL players of all time, a commemoration of the all time greats including Bobby Orr, Maurice Richard, Wayne Gretzky, Gordie Howe and more. Interactive displays will show you why these players will never be forgotten.

Of special note to all hockey historians, you’ll be able to see the original minute book that detailed the meetings that led to the creation of the NHL!

This collection of artifacts and curated videos of the greatest moments in the NHL’s history will be the ultimate walk down memory lane for true fans of the sport. Consider it the perfect family day trip for passing on the passion and history of hockey to future generations.
