Canada turned 150 this year, but there was another birthday that is equally significant for many Canadians.

100 YEARS OF THE NHL

It’s almost hard to believe, isn’t it? The NHL formed in 1917, a full century ago, changing the game, and Canada, as we know it.

The Hockey Hall of Fame is taking this opportunity to present a limited time Centennial Exhibit. Literally a hundred years in the making, these displays will take you through the twists and turns of Canada’s favourite past-time. See the history of changes in policy like the introduction of the masks for goaltenders (including the first ever mask worn by Jacques Plante!), as well as advancements in the technology of equipment like skates and pads over the years.

At the heart of the display will be the 100 greatest NHL players of all time, a commemoration of the all time greats including Bobby Orr, Maurice Richard, Wayne Gretzky, Gordie Howe and more. Interactive displays will show you why these players will never be forgotten.

Of special note to all hockey historians, you’ll be able to see the original minute book that detailed the meetings that led to the creation of the NHL!

This collection of artifacts and curated videos of the greatest moments in the NHL’s history will be the ultimate walk down memory lane for true fans of the sport. Consider it the perfect family day trip for passing on the passion and history of hockey to future generations.
Full details available here. Don’t miss out.

If you’re coming to Toronto to visit the Hockey Hall of Fame, or just planning a business trip, stay at the Super 5 Inn for an unbeatable combination of value and comfort. Each of our rooms comes with a 40” TV, so you can catch any games in style from the privacy of your own room! Book your room today.

From September 2 to the 4th, Toronto will be hosting the exciting Canadian International Air Show, featuring jaw-dropping aerial displays and exhibits. Aviation enthusiasts will be delighted by the incredible formations performed by the Canadian Forces Snowbirds, the Breitling Jejt Team, and a CF-18 Hornet. When the sun starts to peak and the thermostat rises to sweltering status, Torontonians know it’s time to hit the beach. Though high water levels mean that some beaches are flooded or closed this summer, there are still plenty of cool, sandy hangouts around to beat the heat. Here’s a list of our top five favourite beaches open in Toronto:

Bluffer’s Beach

Right off Bluffer’s Park at the bottom of Scarborugh Bluffs, this beach is one of the most popular and generally well maintained in the city. It’s a great spot for biking, hike trails, and picnics. It gets pretty busy on the weekends though, so be sure to get down there early.

Cherry Beach

Another well-loved spot in Toronto, this slightly less manicured beach has some rockier shores, but it’s still fantastic for a cool dip and a picnic on the green areas. Great for watersports, bbqs, and icecream indulgence, this quirky spot is worth a check out.

Woodbine Beach

Woodbine Beach has pretty much got it all. From the huge swimming pool, volleyball courts, skate park, and long, sandy beach, this spot certainly meets top five in the city. Lots of people come down here, so make sure to grab a spot early. It’s a great beach for firework viewing during the holidays too.

Kew & Balmy Beach

Close by to the bustling Woodbine Beach, Kew and Balmy Beach are a little quieter and low key. For those looking to escape the crowds, these relatively peaceful areas are a bit rockier, but still great for sunbathing and people watching.

No matter which beach you end up heading out to, you’re sure to have an excellent day in the sun and surf. Don’t forget to bring sunscreen and water, as the days have been pretty sizzling this year. After a hot day out, come stay the night and cool off at Super 5 Inn Toronto. Our great location, spacious rooms and affordable rates make us a launch pad for your summer beach day. Book Today!
